‘Flirty Dancing’ producers tease what to expect from the new dating show
On FOX’s new reality show Labor of Love , Kristy Katzmann , 41, dated a pool of 15 guys in the hope of finding a partner in her journey toward motherhood. Much like the actual birthing process, the first season was a rollercoaster ride of joy, pain, and abdominal cramps because obviously there was an episode where the men were hooked up to machines that simulated labor pain. In a new interview with Men’s Health , the Labor of Love star reflected on her decision and gave updates on whether the couple is still together.
She was learning her half of a duet for Flirty Dancing, a dance-meets-dating reality show that brings couples together for wordless blind dates.
Arguably the most irresponsible reality show ever made, “Born in the Wild” documents couples who want to have a more “natural” birthing experience by delivering a baby in the great outdoors—unassisted by modern medicine. The show was slammed by medical experts, as a premodern birth process is associated with vastly higher infant mortality rates. The actual show plays a bit like a miracle-of-birth version of “The Blair Witch Project”—and when a show’s suspense is generated from viewers wondering if a mother and her newborn are going to die, you’ve got to wonder how this ever got a green light.
The concept: Catch suspected relationship cheaters in the act. The execution: As tasteless as it sounds. Lowlight: Host Joey Greco getting stabbed during a confrontation. The first same-sex dating show could’ve been groundbreaking TV.

It is arguably the most knuckleheaded show I have seen in half a decade. You could take this show and bury it in the desert, and people would still be able to locate it from the stench of its utter, logic-defying stupidity. Watching Labor of Love is like pulling your brain out of your ear with a corkscrew and booting it into a lake. Let me try to explain. In textbook dating show fashion, Kristy is a year-old divorcee who must choose between 15 different hunks.
The entire show exists to help one woman choose a candidate to impregnate her. Clearly, we were already headed this way. Dating shows cannot simply be dating shows any more. Of course there was eventually going to be a show about women being impregnated by men they barely know. To be clear, I hate it. They all uniformly, regardless of age or background or race, look like slabs of battered ham.
The format is awful, especially the part where the woman eliminates potential fathers on an iPad app. It feels like a document designed to be presented to God as an argument for the total eradication of the human race. It feels like an open invitation for the coronavirus.
The wacky 52-year-long evolution of dating shows on TV
The series takes four couples at a crucial time in their relationship, splits them up in two houses, and surrounds them with sexy single people to date over the course of the show. Either the couples will weather the storm or they’ll give into temptation, but there will inevitably be drama no matter what happens with that many men and women living in fancy villas together. Temptation Island is hardly the first insane-sounding show centered around dating on TV and not even the first version of Temptation Island , but it might just be the most cruel and therefore entertaining.
Join us as we take a walk through some of TV’s other wild TV dating concepts—minus The Bachelor, because in comparison, one person dating 30 other people and slowly eliminating them is practically a normal way to date at this point. Temptation Island might be the most twisted of them all, just because its stars are not even single. The show takes four established couples, splits them up into guys and girls, then puts the girls in a house full of single guys and the guys in a house full of single girls.
